Cable/Harness Testing Made Easy.

Testing cables and harnesses with low voltage usually doesn't get too confusing. If you question the test results you are getting, just get a Volt-Ohm-Meter (VOM) and see the problem without using a tester. However, high voltage testing raises questions that are not as easily answered. Our newsletter this month begins with a couple of questions to check your high voltage knowledge and gives you a link to a new "comprehensive" page on testing cables and harnesses with High Voltage.

If you have any questions or comments, call us at 1-800-441-9910.

Test your knowledge of high voltage with a couple of questions:

  1. The purpose of high voltage testing is to find:
    1. Weaknesses in insulation that separates conductors (wires and contacts)
    2. Weaknesses in the continuity of conductors (wires and contacts)
    3. Nicked or cut strands
    4. Both a and b
    5. All of the above
  2. How can a Cirris tester be considered safe when testing at 1000 volts DC when a person can be electrocuted with 120 VAC from a wall plug?
    1. The tester is using Direct Current (DC) rather than AC current
    2. The tester limits the current so as to be non-hazardous
    3. The tester quickly shuts down if the current is exceeded
    4. Both b and c.
