Cable/Harness Testing Made Easy.

When I was in school as a kid I liked math and I remember the first calculator I bought. I was amazed at all the things I could do with it and how easily it solved many difficult problems. Ever since, I keep a calculator within easy reach and use it almost every day. Since those earlier days, my ability to remember formulas that I don't use very often has lead me to keep web links and cheat sheets handy. This month we've added a couple of new Ohm's Law calculators to the list of handy electronics related calculators on the cirris.com web page, and discuss others you may find useful.

If you have any questions or comments, call us at 1-800-441-9910.

In electronics, Ohm's law seems to come up on a regular basis. The formula itself is not too complicated, (V=IR), but often we're faced with all those pesky units like kilo, micro, mega, giga and the like. Our ohm's law calculator has drop down menus, which allow you to pick the units in English so you don't have to worry about counting 0's! Give it a try here.

Besides the unit issues, the specs you are given aren't always easy to plug into the standard ohm's law formula. Especially specs for high voltage, or hipot, testing. Usually the spec is given in Volts, and either Minimum Insulation Resistance or Maximum Leakage (trip) Current. This version of the ohm's law calculator helps you convert a Volts/I.R. spec to Volts/Current Leakage, or vice versa. It also gives you an explanation on how the three values relate during a hipot test.
