Cable/Harness Testing Made Easy. This month we describe why twisted pair wires are used in cables/harnesses. We explore the most common error in these assemblies that does not get detected with simple opens/shorts testing. We have also recently changed the look of our website to make it cleaner and easier for you to navigate. If you have any questions or comments, call us at 1-800-441-9910. Best Regards, |

| Testing Twisted-Pair Wires | |
Many of you that build cables/harnesses with twisted-pairs have had returned assemblies that the customer reports just do not work. Yet they pass as properly wired cables. What is the most likely problem? The wrong pairs of wires are twisted together. These defects, called split-pairs, often occur when a common color of wire is used for several twisted pairs in the same cable. It matters a lot which wires are twisted together. To understand more about twisted-pairs, and why split-pairs are a problem, see Twisted Pair Testing |
To test twisted pairs you will need more than just a continuity tester. |
